Totnes 20 - 30 Exmouth

The long journey to Totnes hardly seemed worthwhile, as Tots’ squad size and pitch allocation meant only time for one game was offered.

Exmouth travelling well were still able to produce two sides, albeit with quite a few absentees. With Captain Ethan Langson-Justin winning the toss, Exmouth kicked off uphill and dominated from there on. A relatively small pitch ensured a tight game, which favoured Exmouth’s strong and physical forward play. Exmouth totally out muscled Tots and won all the ball from the rucks and mauls. Six unanswered tries within the first half brought the game to an early end. Try scorers being Sam Fulthorpe (2), Joseph Oates, Lawrence Knight, Zach Higginson and Callum Cross.

Mass substitutions saw a different team come out for the second half, which was extended to use all the available time allocated. Tit for tat tries saw a more even game, as Tots got the first score, before scrum half Hugo Flynn picked up from the ruck and jinked his way over. Tots replied.  From the restart Jake Devine came close to being driven over, keeping possession, the recycled ball allowed Ieuan Kidd to claim his score. In an attempt to even the playing time, a full team change saw Exmouth again dominate play with tries coming from Fulthorpe, Knight, Langson-Justice and Ollie Toomey.

All change for the final time and Exmouth came perilously close on more than one occasion. Finn Urmstone, improving by the minute, will be scoring soon, and debutant Aiden Wilmot, thrown in the deep end did well.  Score at the final whistle Exmouth Winning 30 – 20. Away to Sidmouth next week.
