Tiverton 15 - 35 Exmouth
Mornings like this illustrate how healthy the state of the junior game is at ERFC. Two sides travelled to Tiverton to face one side who were ill prepared to face the mighty young Cockles.
From the outset it was obviously clear that this result was only going one way. Sam Fulthorpe’s strength at the breakdown earned him the “team player” award and also a try. Exmouth’s dominance up front allowed them to easily grind out the phases, and when the time was right got the ball out wide to the wing where Callum Cross picked up two and Will Tidbull picked up the first.
Just coasting through this game it seemed best to get the 2nd’s on as they would get more out of the game. Things started to look a lot better and both sides, now evenly matched, started playing some good rugby. High points from a coaching side included Joseph Stevens really stepping up his game, and putting in some crunching tackles, earning him the “Tackler of the Day” award. Jake Devine’s runs sending Tivvy flying like skittles. Max McConaghy’s try saving tackle in the corner.
Tom Cooke’s three tries, proving once again he knows where the try line is. Hugo Flynn at scrum half, both carried well and spun it wide when the space was there. Josh Wibberley at fly half, has his work cut out as decision maker and didn’t disappoint. Aiden Willmott started to show some aggression and carried the ball well. Good signs all round, as Exmouth cruised to victory by seven tries to three.
