Game 2: Exmouth 40 - 40 Sidmouth

A full turn out for Exmouth cockles under 8’s resulted in the home squad being divided into 2 teams against an equally strong Sidmouth opposition.

In the first match Sidmouth were quick to start and scored a couple of tries in the first few minutes. Exmouth came back with some great runs with Thomas Preece and Owen Tidbal picking up tries from the Cockles.

The second half saw Sidmouth stretch their advantage, but the hosts fought back with Ben Stuart, Luke Davis and Thomas Preece again scoring for Exmouth.  Preece in particular demonstrated great potential by showing his side-stepping runs through the Sidmouth defence.

Sidmouth fought back and the game finally finished 15 tries to 9 in Sidmouth’s favour.

A change of teams for both sides resulted in a much closer second game. Sidmouth opened the scoring and were equally matched by Exmouth so that at half time the scores were 4 tries each with Eddie Ford and Arron Lee scoring for the hosts.

In the second half a well – disciplined Sidmouth defence kept Exmouth at a distance by strong defensive tagging skills.

Arron Lee showed his determination by again breaking the Sidmouth defence to score and additional tries were picked up for the Cockles by Ollie Jones and Ben Davis.

The game finally finished in a draw of 8 tries each, which was a good reflection of the commitment shown by both sides.
