Game 1: Sidmouth 40 - 40 Exmouth

Game 2: Sidmouth 35 - 40 Exmouth

Game 3: Sidmouth 40 - 15 Exmouth

Confusion about the venue and very limited parking ensured the Cockles got off to a delayed start. High winds, meant cold hands and tagging would be a problem and so it was, for both sides. Exmouth got off to a great start, good handling and short passing ensured no fumbles, and pressured play forced the turnover. Sidmouth channelling a lot of their play through a few individuals, created problems with ball in hand and lead at the break 20-15.

The second half began and the Cockles now fully aware of Sid’s danger men started to dictate the play. Good tagging closed Sid’s channels as the Cockles started running tries in from all over the park. With four disallowed tries, Exmouth were unlucky not to win. Score at the whistle 40-40. Try scorers being Tom Cooke (2), Zach Higginson (2), Sam Fulthorpe, Ollie Toomey (2) and Joseph Oates.

The second game saw a fresh band of Cockles all eager to impress. Captained by Samuel-Jay Verth, they all fought courageously at keeping possession, passed well and closed down the opposition through hard work. This is the second time this team has played together, and without any substitutions, they are starting to gel as a unit. Good strong running lines and close support ensured this side competed against a well drilled Sidmouth. Exmouth lead 10-15 at the break. The second half was an altogether different game, with the cold really starting to take effect. Tries were being run in from the restarts, with little or no resistance, as both sides started to tire. Score at the final whistle 35-40. Try scorers being Connell Deehen-Jackson, Toby Gilbody (3), Joseph Stevens (3) and Ieuan Kidd.

The third game proved to be a game too much for Exmouth as they faced a fresh Sidmouth side that hadn’t played yet. Tired minds and bodies meant mistakes were made in abundance. Ill discipline also crept into the side and at times the Cockles were absent. Tom Cooke provided the move of the game, picking up a loose ball and then dotting down. However a fresh and talented Sidmouth side romped home winners 40-15. Try scorers being Toomey, Cooke and Fulthorpe.
