Exmouth 45 - 25 Honiton

Exmouth Cockles under 8’s took on a fully committed Honiton side this weekend.  Honiton deserve much well earned praise as their squad comprised of only a few under 8’s with the majority being under 7’s.

Nevertheless the visitors were determined to give Exmouth a run for their money!

In the first half, Exmouth opened their account with Eddie Ford cutting through the Honiton defence.  Stewart Masters followed with a second try for Exmouth. Honiton tried hard to catch up and notched up two tries during the first half. However, Ollie Jones scored two further first half tries for the Cockles; the second try followed a great delivery and set-up from Eddie Ford.

An inspiring half time talk for the Exmouth squad saw them start the second half determined to practise their passing skills.  Ollie Jones picked up his third try for Exmouth after a swerving run of three quarters of the pitch.  Exmouth then concentrated on their passing and after putting this to the test with second and third phase passing, Luke Davis and Eddie Ford added additional well-earned tries for the home side.

Honiton fought back hard at Exmouth, but James McGowan finished the game off for the Cockles by scoring after a side-stepping run before the whistle blew for full time.  Exmouth were victorious with the final score being 9 tries to 5 in their favour.

However, Honiton put up a brave fight and should be applauded for their team spirit and willingness to make up a team for the game.
