Exeter Saracens v Exmouth
Following the Christmas break and several matches being postponed due to poor weather, Exmouth Cockles under 8’s travelled to Broadclyst to play Exeter Saracens for their first event of 2010.
Due to the strength in numbers and high turnout of players on both sides, a number of games were held between the two teams.
Saracens came out as overall winners during what proved to be a hard fought contest.
Of particular note for Exmouth were James McOwan, Toby McCowaghy and Stewart Masters all who picked up a number of tries between them in the first match.
A great run was made by James McOwan who picked up the ball and ran from one end of the pitch to the other before passing to Ollie Jones who scored for Exmouth. Thomas Preece also scored a bonus try.
The final game was extremely hard fought with Callum Wilmott, Luke Davis, Arron Lee and Owen Tidball all picking up tries for Exmouth. Cameron Bennett proved to be unstoppable and put in some great runs for Exmouth, scoring two tries in the final 5 minutes.
The attacking play was supported well by Harry Sprague and Eddie Ford who were solid in defence and kept Saracens at bay by their strong tagging.
The Exmouth Squad travel to Torquay for their next match of the season, before hosting Saracens again in a fortnight’s time in what is sure to be a further closely contested match.
