Game 2: Exeter Saravens 20 - 20 Exmouth

Cold, wet and windy was how the first of two games against a physical looking Sarries team started. From the onset it was clear that only one team had been coached in accordance with the Continuum. Sarries, persistent failure to understand and flouting of the rules, particularly offside, hampered the flow of the game and flustered the young Cockles in to making hasty decisions. Sarries went in leading at the break.

Second half saw a more dominant Exmouth. A few coaching points and some tactical substitutions, saw the Cockles come out and really take control of the game. Great running lines and off loads saw the try count rise in favour of the Cockles who clinched the game with time to spare. Try scorers, Ethan Langston-Justice, Morgan Wright (2), Joseph Oates and Sam Fulthorpe (2).

Exmouth started the second game explosively with a try dubiously disallowed for not crossing the line! From there it was tit for tat tries, both sides playing some good supportive rugby. Try of the game went to Sam Fulthorpe. His awareness allowed him to pick up Connell Deehen-Jackson’s ball, who after doing all the hard work, mistakenly grounded the ball seven meters short, and run it in for a score.

Again and again the Cockles pressured Sarries into making mistakes or turnovers, but were unable to capitalise on the possession. All square at the whistle Exmouth’s other try scorers were Laurence Knight (2) and Joseph Oates.
