Exmouth 12 - 0 Taunton
Playing the first home game of the new season the Exmouth Under 15's entertained a very large Taunton side in a 'friendly' encounter, on the main Imperial Ground.
The game started as it previously had done against Yatton with a dropped ball straight from the kick off! The Exmouth team putting unnecessary pressure on themselves allowing Taunton straight into the game with some hard running towards the Exmouth line. Tackling was at the highest quality throughout the game preventing any of the Taunton strong runners to get away. Tackles went in throughout the day by Aaron Conway, Joe Biddulph, Ollie Sims to name a few. The first period of play ended nil – nil with Exmouth feeling pleased they had stemmed the Taunton pressure.
In the second period confidence grew and the Exmouth play became more expansive with the forwards stealing the ball on many occasions, in one instance the ball was spun wide by Lloyd Watkins and Danny Sansom to the flying winger Ollie Sims who stepped inside the defence to score wide on the Left Hand wing. James England putting over a fine conversion.
With the few changes at end of the middle period bringing fresh legs on to the pitch Exmouth raised them game further – keeping Taunton's attacks at bay. Exmouth started to run the ball quite freely at times, with the likes of Mark Wooley and Simon Hartery making inroads into the Taunton defence. After one such attack the Taunton Fly Half kicked the ball up the middle of the pitch, only to be caught by Full Back James England. James ran the ball back towards the Taunton line swapping passes with Simon Hartery and scoring a fine try in the corner. Unfortunately the conversion attempt by the scorer was missed.
The final score of 12 – 0 to Exmouth reflected a fine, hard worked for performance by all the players – both Forwards and Backs.
