Exmouth 27 - 5 Kingsbridge
With both teams fielding depleted squads due to illness and unavailability this game was set to be a fairly even affair – The final score line of 27-5 to Exmouth flatters the young cockles who were put under considerable pressure from a very capable Kingsbridge team who for long periods of the game dominated play. It is credit to Exmouth however that their stern defence again held and only let through a solitary try.
The first name on the scoreboard was Ollie Howard, playing regularly after serious injury at the end of last season, who picked up the ball from the base of a ruck and crashed over from 5 yards for his first try of the season. The conversion was missed.
James England made up for his missed conversion by scoring a try in the right hand corner following a fine break by Simon Hartery.
The score at Half Time was 10 nil, the Exmouth boys lucky to be in front as they absorbed pressure which was brought on themselves by silly mistakes and failing to clear their lines.
The half time team talk was obviously noted by the team as within minutes of the restart No8 Josh Elliot drove over the line for his 7th try of the season – This was closely followed by Jake Cunningham picking up a kick through from Danny Sansom and scoring wide out.
Ryan Poulter completed the try scoring to take the score to 25-5, with England finally putting over a conversion to make the final score 27-5 to Exmouth.
Despite the mistakes and wrong decisions at times credit must be given to a side suffering from 9 withdrawals and several positional changes, notably Scrum half Joe Goode and Ben Heys for playing superbly out of position.
