Kingsbridge 0 - 67 Exmouth
The long journey to Kingsbridge, and an even longer wait for an available pitch, were a frustrating build up to this game, but Exmouth were not phased by this and turned out a first class performance.
From the very start Exmouth dominated all areas of the pitch, especially the forwards led by Eddie Wright who paved the way for a superb backs performance.
With complete concentration, great organisation and superb strength the pack dominated the scrums, line outs and loose play. The usual suspects were in stunning form as Seb Opie, Jack Stuart, Andrew Woodward and Jono Kamester appeared to be at every breakdown, tidying up loose balls and continuing the pressure on Kingsbridge.
Good performances also from Ben Holloway and Dom Roberts were rewarded with tries. A strong run from Dom, with several players still attached to him, saw him cross the line for a well deserved try. Bens’ strength once again was used to full effect as he scored three times. Meanwhile, Conor Morrow and Ryan Drakes’ coverage of the pitch was excellent.
Two substitutions brought new energy to the game in the shape of Jack Drake and Will French both showing the same enthusiasm as Alex Smith and Tom Skinner playing an important roll for the team.
The backs had their best game to date, following on from training, passed the ball well and blitzed the opposition with pace.
Paul Bright scored 4 tries, Lewis Turner 1, Tom Steer 1 and Simon Wade 1, confirming a fresh new feel to the backs that was both exciting and expectant for the future.
This performance would have put a smile on the face of Patrick Hall, who will be away from the game for a significant period of time due to a bad injury. All the team would agree that they played this game for him and wish him a speedy recovery.
