Exmouth 10 - 10 Topsham
Exmouth U13's continued their un-beaten run with a 10 - 10 draw at home this Sunday against a quality Topsham side.
Both teams took to the field with a positive approach to playing open running rugby, which was a delight to watch for both sets of supporters, with a high level of skill and commitment being shown by all players.
Topsham took the lead in the first half with two un-converted tries with Exmouth having to work hard to secure sufficient quality possession to put Topsham under pressure during the early stages of the first half.
With Exmouth 10 - 0 down, the Exmouth team dug deep towards the end of the first half and started to build on the possession they secured which resulted in a powerful and determined run by Simon Hartery, who never lost sight of the try line and touched down for a try which was not converted.
Exmouth moved into the second half 10 - 5 down, however with the current strength in depth of the squad , the coaching staff were able to make a number of changes, at and shortly after the half time break which allowed the full squad of players to play during the game. The strength in depth of the squad and the rotation of the players is a key objective, with the forthcoming 'Devon Plate Games'.
With the 'fresh legs' on the pitch Exmouth lifted the tempo of the game which resulted in Connor Deighton narrowly missing a try in the corner only after a 'last gasp' tackle by the Topsham defense.
The game continued in the same open style with Exmouth now back to securing the quantity of the possession it is used to. The final minutes of the game saw Exmouth 'encamped' in the Topsham 22, with a fine driving try scored by Josh Elliot after a powerful run from the 5 yard line, which was not converted.
Well done again to the full squad of players.
