South Molton 6 - 23 Exmouth

South Molton are struggling for numbers, but it is the first season they have put out a Colts team for some years.  With that in mind Exmouth sent up a predominantly Under 17 team.

South Molton started with great spirit and determination and were two penalty kicks up after 20 minutes. Exmouth looked pedestrian and poorly organised, giving away far too many penalties. Just before half time Centre Andrew Caddywold chipped ahead and dribbled over the try line for an unconverted try.

The second half saw some changes in personnel and Exmouth looked the better team for the first time. Influential stand off Howard Smith put the Cockles ahead with a Penalty. Followed by three unconverted trys by Joe Harnick, James Norton and Anthony Tribble.  Exmouth dominated territorially in the second half pinning South Molton into their own half.

It was good to see ex-Exmouth Colt Adam Morris (now Withycombe) guesting for the Cornish All Blacks Development team against Redruth on Tuesday night. Also part of the winning team was 17 year old Exmouth Colt Joe Parkin playing his first senior game.

Joe played the full 80 minutes and Coach Jon Hill was quoted as saying 'you would have thought he'd been playing National League rugby for years.' Joe is captain of Exmouth Colts and Exeter College Rugby Academy and always leads from the front. He is an inspirational skipper and influential player who has a very mature 'rugby' head on young shoulders.
