Bideford 3 - 27 Exmouth
Bideford are another team suffering from a lack of numbers at Colts level, so in the spirit of the game Exmouth helped them out with two players to ensure the game was a contest, and it was. Bideford took the lead after 8 minutes with a penalty, but the lead was short lived as, 4 minutes later, the Exmouth pack took a scrum against the head. Stand in Scrum half Ty Tuckett picked up and fed Harry Noel-Smith who put the Cockles two points clear.
It was Tuckett who was on the score sheet next after a 50 metre kick and chase by Keegan Ferraday resulted in a ruck close to the try line Tuckett supporting well picked up and increased the lead.
Bideford kicked well using the gale force winds to their advantage, gaining good territorial advantage, but failed to capitalise on it due to some good defence by the visiting back row of Mark Roach, Ash Reid and Oscar Murray.
Exmouth added to their total just before half time with a well taken catch and drive from a 5 metre line out. Jake Gauntlet adding the try. Mark Roach dominated the line out again and as stand in skipper led by example.
Sods law came into effect in the second half, which saw 50 mile an hour winds drop to a breeze! The game plan of using the wind went out of the window as Exmouth repelled several close quarter attacks by the heavier Bideford forwards, failing to clear their lines on as many occasions. The defence was solid though and the backs did well to run out of defence and put Antony Tribble in at the corner after a fine flowing move by all of the backs.
Replacement winger Tim Green made a nuisance of himself coming close half a dozen times. He was evident in the final try which came from a well worked blindside move from a scrum. Number 8 Roach feeding Tuckett, then Green. Green beating his man then putting Tuckett away on the inside to score under the posts. Smith converting to make the final score 3-27 in favour of the visiting Cockles.
