Exmouth 12 - 0 Barnstaple

Barnstaple took the honours in the last two meetings but it was Exmouth who stole this hard fought match with more ease than the scoreline suggests.  Exmouth dominated territory and possession, but failed to capitalise on their time spent in Barums 22.

Exmouth did however, capitalise on good possession and good interplay for Vice Captain and Man of the Match, Mark Roach to crash over after five minutes.

Both teams defended well but as the scoreline suggests the visitors were outgunned in this department.  Skipper Joe Parkin made some good breaks around the base of the scrum and Dan McLeod had his fair share too. The back three of Ant Tribble, Howard Smith and Tim Green worked well together in defence counterattacking at every opportunity.

Where Exmouth truly dominated was in the lineout, winning their own ball and Roach stealing most of Barnstaples. With 10 minutes to go McLeod ripped the ball in a tackle and galloped 50 metres to score under the posts. Smith converting.

The match ended on a sad note with Chris Charitou badly damaging his shoulder and being whisked away quickly and efficiently by the Ambulance Service. This was his first game back in over twelve months after suffering an injury to the same shoulder.  We wish him a speedier recovery.  With such a large squad, Exmouth will be putting out a very different team against Torrington, away next week.
