Exmouth 18 - 14 Exeter Saracens

Exmouth Nomads were under the hammer from the kick off against our local visitors, and after 15 minutes of dogged defending, Saracens got the break resulting in their first try, converted by former Exmouth player Dean Chisling.

From the restart, Sarries put pressure once again on the Nomads try line and after a few minutes Sarries touched down again with Chisling popping over the conversion.

The Nomads gradually started to get into the game and although they camped on the Saracens try line, they couldn’t break the defence.  Then Matt Broadhurst, playing at fly half, kicked a drop goal to put 3 points on the scoreboard for Exmouth.

At half time, the Nomads made a few positional changes and this made some difference and it wasn’t long before it paid dividends with Paul Flower scoring the Nomads first try, converted by Andrew Binmore.  The Nomads now took control and it was inside center Matt Hannah who increased the score with the Nomads second try.  Although Saracens made every effort to get back into the game, the home sides defence curtailed any ambitions by the visitors and it was Binmore who increased Exmouth’s scoreline with a penalty.

15 minutes from time, Leigh Ellis sustained a knee injury and sub Roger Holman put his “bus pass” in the valuables bag and came on until the final whistle.
