Exmouth 44 - 10 Tiverton

Saturday saw the Exmouth RFC Quins squad entertain Tiverton RFC second team in the league. The game started well for the Exmouth side, straight from the Exmouth kick off, to start the game Tiverton were under pressure. The Quins tried every method to try and cross the Tiverton try line, there were forward drives, well executed moves from the backs and good inter-play between the forwards and backs, but the Tiverton defence was just too strong.

However with twenty minutes played Exmouth found away through, from a scrum number eight Ben Waistell gathered the ball drove towards the Tiverton line in support was scrum half Seb Phelps who Ben passed to and Seb went over the line unopposed, with the conversion being missed it was five points to nil to Exmouth.

From the restart Tiverton found themselves in the Exmouth half for the first time, from some mistakes by the Exmouth, the Tiverton forwards fly hacked the ball on gathered the bouncing ball and scored in the corner, the advantage to the Quins was short lived as Tiverton converted the try making the score five points to seven in their favour.

Again the Quins exerted the pressure from the restart but the Tiverton defence was working hard to keep Exmouth out, that was until winger Brad Perkins scored a good solo try with just minutes to go until half time, yet again the conversion was missed, ten point to seven to Exmouth. With the restart Tiverton found themselves in the Exmouth half for only the second time in the game, this time Exmouth were penalized for being off-side, Tiverton converted the three points with the last kick of the first half. So the score line stood at ten points a-piece.

With the weather condition worsening the Quins started the second half with the wind and rain at their backs this made it even more difficult for Tiverton, along with the pressure applied by Exmouth, for them to make any progress into the Quins half. The Quins slowly wore the Tiverton defence down and tries started to come at regular intervals. the first to score was centre Matt Hannah when he finished off a good three quarter move, Brad Perkins converted the extra two points, seventeen ten to Exmouth.

Then ten minutes later full back Sean DeLoze went over the Tiverton line to score, this was quickly followed by a try from flanker John Bird. Brad Perkins then went over for his second try of the game, all three conversion attempts were unfortunately missed. From a set of good plays by both the Exmouth forwards and backs, fly half Andy Binmore scored Exmouth's seventh try which was converted by Brad Perkins, thirty seven ten to Exmouth.

Finally young Alex Hole went over to score his first try for the club and Exmouth's eighth of the game, making a final score line of forty four points to ten in Exmouth's favour.
