Sidmouth 12 - 24 Exmouth

Saturday saw the Exmouth RFC Quins travel to Sidmouth to take on their Quins side in the last league game for the first half of the season.

The game kick off with Exmouth playing down the slope and also with the wind advantage. It started at a frantic pace with Exmouth doing most of the attacking, but a stout defence from Sidmouth saw the Exmouth side coming up short several times in the early exchanges. It wasn't until the game was about twenty minutes old when fly half Jack Van-Collier managed to go over the Sidmouth try line, when he took a high ball from a Sidmouth kick he saw space to his left and sprinted for the line eventually go over right in the corner, five nil to Exmouth. The remainder of the first half saw Exmouth working hard to use the slope and wind to gain any advantage but with some poor ball retention and decision making they were unable to cross the Sidmouth line and at half time it was five nil to Exmouth.

The second half saw Exmouth under pressure from the first whistle, Sidmouth controlled the first ten minutes play but for some heroic defending from the Exmouth players they were unable to cross the Exmouth line. After ten minutes play and Exmouth camped in their half of the pitch centre Barry Walton managed to break the Sidmouth lines and go over to score with the kick going wide Exmouth took a ten points to nil lead. Sidmouth went straight on the attack again but as before were unable to cross the Exmouth try line. Thirty minutes into the second saw Exmouth score their third try when Barry Walton went over the line to score under the posts this time Jack Van-Collier added the two extra points to make the score line seventeen nil to Exmouth. Sidmouth finally broke the Exmouth defence when after the thirty fifth minute they scored their first try, seventeen five to Exmouth, quickly after they scored their second try which made it twelve seventeen in Exmouth's Favour.

With Exmouth under the cosh and Sidmouth looking to score their third try and level the scores, Exmouth managed to clear their line with a kick for touch, Sidmouth won the lineout but flanker Donny Lynaghan charged down the clearance kick gathered the ball and scored under the posts with Jack Van-Collier converting the two points and the ref blowing the final whistle Exmouth came away Twenty four points to twelve winners.
