Paignton 0 - 52 Exmouth
Saturday saw the Quins travel to Paignton to take on their second team in the league. On paper this seemed to be a fore gone conclusion, the Quins at the top of the table five points clear of their nearest rivals and Paignton at the bottom without a win to their name this season. However Paignton had not read the script, even those Exmouth scored within the first seven minutes through a well taken try by Paul Morgan, Paignton's dogged defence kept Exmouth at bay up until the last few minutes of the first half when second row Ian Dunstan finished of a good forward drive to score, with Shaun Fayter on target with the conversion it was twelve points to nil, to Exmouth, and that was the half time score line. It was a frustrating half for the Quins not just because of the defensive work by Paignton but, also the mistake by the Quins which seemed to get worse the more they tried.
The second half started much the same as the first with a score in the first five minutes when prop Paul Flower went over to score his third try in as many games, seventeen nil to Exmouth, but then the Paignton defence dug in their heels and with Exmouth making more mistake the more they tried to improve it was a further fifteen minute before the Quins could score when Adam Bond went over for a try in the far corner and with Shaun Fayter adding the conversion it was twenty four points to nil in Exmouth favour. From that point things started to change, there were fewer mistake, moves were being completed and our fitness was starting to show some much so that the Quins ran in a further four tries, one from Sam Bull and a further three for Paul Morgan, taking his tally for the game to four, all of which were converted by Shaun Fayter, bring the final score to fifty two points to nil to the Quins.
This was a frustrating game for the Quins even with such a large score line, if the mistake had been cut out, the lineout's more accurate and the execution of the move done at pace the score line could quite easily been double.
