Exmouth 45 - 7 Newton Abbot
Merit Table leaders Exmouth Quins took on Newton Abbot looking for a win following their earlier defeat in the season at Newton Abbot.
The All Whites started the game dominating most of the play and attacking Exmouth's try line, Exmouth's defence was solid and kept The Whites at bay, as play developed deep in Exmouth's 22 a turnover ball gave Exmouth an early opportunity to score with Dale Sleeman breaking from deep in his own half and running the length of the pitch with several Newton Abbott players failing to bring him down he scored in the corner, Brad (the Boot) Perkins converting score 7-0. Exmouth then stepped up a gear and starting to outplay their opponents, Exmouth had a driving maul heading for Newton Abbotts line when Chris Strong peeled off the back and passed the ball to skipper Seb Phelps who crossed the line to score Exmouth's 2nd try, Perkins converted, with play going from end to end and both defenses solid the score remained at 14-0 up to half time.
Exmouth scored soon after the break when Fly Half Jonny Boltrukiewicz switched play and passed to Seb Phelps to score his 2nd and Exmouth's 3rd try, ever reliable Perkins converting. By this time Exmouth were in total command of the game, Colt Joe Parkin making his senior game debut at scrum half for Exmouth was dominating around the base of the scrum and in the tackling area he set up Exmouth's 4th try with some superb passing to winger Russ Sayer who scored in the corner, again Perkins converted.
Newton Abbot tried to come back as the half was progressing, superb tackling and turnover play prevented them from scoring, the Whites had a scrummage deep in their own 22 but Exmouth's pack took one against the head, Strong peeled off at the back passed to Parkin who then set up brad Perkins to score under the post he converted his own try score Exmouth 35-0. Exmouth then camped out on Newton Abbot's line and it was only a matter of time before they scored again as Joe Parkin picked up from an Exmouth scrum and sneaked in at the corner.
Exmouth's final try came from a quick tap penalty on the half way line, superb passing along the three quarters and full back Sean de Looze scored in the corner. As Exmouth had the game in the bag with minutes to go Newton Abbot broke away to score their only try which made the final score line 45-7.
This was a game where Exmouth showed from the start what superb rugby they can play, with 4 colts Joe Parkin, Ty Tuckett, Tom Parry and James Atkinson all making their senior debuts and making a big impression.
