On Saturday the Exmouth RFC Quins side travelled to Newton Abbot for a top of the table clash in the league. It was Exmouth that started the game the stronger of the two sides, for the first fifteen minute of the first half Newton Abbot struggled to get out of their own half and it was Exmouth that opened the scoring with a well taken drop goal by Dave McCarthy.
Newton Abbot soon equalized when Exmouth were penalized right in front of their own posts for an off side decision. From the restart the Quins applied the pressure yet again but it took until the thirtieth minute to reap the benefits when Newton Abbot were adjudged to be off side, and fly half Andy Binmore converted the penalty six, three to Exmouth.
Things were going well for the young Exmouth side the forwards were playing well and the three quarters were using the ball intelligently playing into wind. Unfortunately with minutes to go till half time The Newton Abbot scrum half intercepted a pass from yet another Exmouth attacking move and went in to scored under the Exmouth posts unopposed, with the kick being converted it was now ten points to six in Newton Abbot's favour, that was the half time score.
The second half kicked off and it was Newton Abbot that came out all guns blazing and within two minutes they had scored their second try, with the kick going wide it was fifteen six to Newton Abbot. As the game progressed and the score line stayed the same the Quins realized they were running out of time, they through everything at Newton Abbot but their defence stood strong, as wave after wave of attacking rugby failed to materialize any points, it was Newton Abbot who came up with the final score of the game when with only seconds remaining on the clock they managed to brake free from their half and put the final nail in Exmouth's coffin to score a converted try, the final score was twenty two points to six to Newton Abbot.
