Exmouth 23 - 19 Exeter Saracens
On Saturday the Exmouth Quins played a rearranged friendly against Exeter Saracens 1st team and came away twenty three points to nineteen winners.
Exmouth started the game kicking deep into the Saracens twenty two and as in previous games applied the pressure from the off, which caught the Exeter side by surprise, they struggled with the early pressure, but some how kept Exmouth from scoring, until the sixth minute when a penalty was awarded to Exmouth in front of Saracens posts, Richard Cadywould stepped up and converted the penalty giving the first points of the game to the Quins three points to nil.
From the restart Saracens also kicked deep and force Exmouth to kick for touch. From the lineout Saracens attacked the Exmouth defensive line, slicing straight through the usually tight defence to go over the Exmouth try line virtually unopposed, with the extra two points being converted the Saracens were in front seven points to three.
For the next twenty minutes or so the game was pretty evenly matched with both sides playing good attractive running rugby but both sides defenses standing solid. It was Exmouth who broke the dead lock when after several attacking phases using both forwards and back, when centre Barry Walton went over the try line to score, Richard Cadywould added the conversion to make the half time score ten points to seven in Exmouth's favour.
The game continue in the second half much the same as the first, good running rugby played at pace, however it was the Saracens this time that opened the scoring when their winger brushed aside the defending players to score a try in the corner, ten twelve to Exeter Saracens. Shortly after the Saracens try Richard Cadywould kicked another penalty to put the Quins back in the lead thirteen points to twelve. Straight from the restart Exmouth scored their second try when winger Nathan Budd finished off some excellent inter play between forwards and backs, with the kick going slightly wide of the posts the score line was eighteen points to twelve to the Quins.
The third Exmouth try went to Man Of The Match prop forward Paul Flower who powered his way over from the Saracens twenty two to score putting the Exmouth side twenty three points to twelve up. The Saracens had the last score of the game, with a kick ahead from the half way line the Saracens player out sprinted the Exmouth defenders to score the try with the conversion the last kick of the game the final score was twenty three points to Exmouth and nineteen to the Exeter Saracens.
