Crewkerne 17 - 38 Exmouth
On Saturday Exmouth RFC Quins travelled across the border into Somerset to play Crewkerne 1st team in a rearranged friendly.
Things started well for Exmouth, with the forwards putting Crewkerne under pressure from the first whistle, producing good clean ball which the Exmouth three quarter used well with accurate fast passing. With so much of the ball, Exmouth opened the scoring within five minutes when a break by fly half Nick Grant was finished off with a try for winger Nathan Budd under the post which was converted by Nick Grant.
It took a further ten minutes before Exmouth could capitalize on all the pressure and possession, when a quick lineout was taken in their own half the ball was ran wide then fed back inside to Adam Bond who went over to score the try, converted by Nick Grant.
The third try quickly followed when prop forward Paul Flower received the ball from scrum half Neil Hooper on the Crewkerne ten metre line and sprinter over the try line to score under the posts, Nick Grant added the extra two points.
Right on the stroke of half time the Quins scored their forth try when winger Terry Mears out paced his opposite number to score in the corner making the half time score 26 points to nil in Exmouth's favor.
The second half kicked off with the rolls reversed with Crewkerne coming out of the starting block with more urgency than Exmouth, and with in two minutes of the restart Crewkerne scoring a try.
The game for the next twenty five minutes came to a bit of a stalemate with neither side being able to break each others defence until fly half Nick Grant score a good individual try, he chipped the oncoming defensive line, gathered his own kick to cross the Crewkerne try line to score which he also converted.
Crewkerne immediately replied with a try of their own out wide which made the score 33 points to 10.
Exmouth's final try came in the thirty seventh minute when Neil Hooper went over to score after a fine passage of play from both forwards and backs with some excellent ball handling skills.
Crewkerne not to be out done finished off a good passage of play themselves with a try and conversion bang on full time to make the final score 38 point to Exmouth, 17 points to Crewkerne.
