Exmouth 23 - 13 Brixham

Last Saturday saw the Quins take on Brixham second team in the league. From the kick off Brixham started the stronger of the two teams pinning Exmouth in there own twenty two, the Quins survived the onslaught and Exmouth slowly fought there way back into the game.

This allowed the Exmouth forwards to exert their own pressure on the Brixham defence which wasn't as strong as Exmouth's had been early and after four powerful scrums and several rolling mauls the Quins captain Tony Eminns went over the Brixham line for the first points of the game scoring a try, Shaun Fayther added the conversion making it seven points to nil to Exmouth.

Several minutes later Shaun added a penalty making ten, nil. Brixham, after some sustained pressure on the Exmouth try line were awarded a penalty making it ten, three, then shortly after ran in for a try, after some sloppy defensive work by Exmouth, Brixham missed the conversion, ten, eight to Exmouth.

On the stroke of half time the Quins were awarded a penalty which Shaun Fayther converted, the half time score thirteen  points to eight in Exmouth's favour.

The second half was a much tighter affair with both teams defences working very hard, it wasn't until the thirty second minute that the first points of the second half were added to the score line when Shaun Fayther converted another penalty to make it sixteen, eight to Exmouth. Four minutes later prop Murray Daniel finished of a good Exmouth move by scoring a try in the far corner, Shaun Fayther added the two points, twenty three, eight to Exmouth.

With nothing to loose and the game drawing to close Brixham piled on the pressure and in the last minute of the game crossed the Exmouth line to score a try, the Brixham kicker missed the conversion and the ref blew the final whistle.

This was a hard fought game between two well matched sides fortunately for Exmouth the goal kicking of Shaun Fayther proved to be  decisive with the Quins winning the game twenty three points to thirteen.
