Brixham 20 - 22 Exmouth

Saturday saw the Exmouth RFC Quins squad take on Brixham seconds in their penultimate league match of the season.

Putting behind them the defeat from the previous Saturday to Tiverton, the Quins needed to win this game to stand any chance of going for the league title. From the off Exmouth showed their intent when with in three minutes scored their first try as Paul Flower finished off some good inter play between the backs and forwards and crossed the Brixham try line in the corner. Exmouth kept the pressure on Brixham from the restart and scored again when winger Ollie Turton gathered the ball from a Seb Phelps kick ahead to score the try under the posts with the kick being converted by Ed Kirk Exmouth after only eight minutes lead was twelve points to nil.

Brixham got themselves back into the game with two tries in quick succession, making the score line twelve points to ten to Exmouth. In the thirtieth minute the Quins were awarded a penalty right in front of the Brixham posts which Ed Kirk converted, fifteen ten to Exmouth. Right on the stroke of half time Brixham leveled the scores when they went over the Quins try line, half time score fifteen all.

The second half started much the same as the first with Exmouth attacking Brixham at every opportunity, but it was Brixham who scored the first points of the second half when they fly hacked the ball through from a loose Exmouth pass and scored an unconverted try, twenty points to fifteen in Brixham's favour. It took Exmouth twenty five minutes of the second half to add to the score line when Ed Kirk sliced through the Brixham defence to touch down over the Brixham try line, with Ed converting his own try the score line swung to Exmouth's favour twenty two points to twenty and that's how it stayed until the final whistle, a very good hard fought win for the Quins.

The win over Brixham last Saturday has set up this weeks game against league leaders Barnstaple, the Quins last league match of the season,  as a must win game.
