Barnstaple 29 - 6 Exmouth
Saturday saw the Exmouth Quins travel to top of the league Barnstaple for big league game against their seconds.
The game started off at a great rate of knots with both teams wanting to play good attacking rugby, defenses on both sides were strong and well organized and difficult to brake down. It was Barnstaple that broke the dead lock first when, from a scrum on Exmouth's five metre line, when their number eight broke blind evaded several tackle and went over to score, with the kick going over as well that put Barnstaple in front by seven points to nil. The game continued with both sides putting each others defenses under pressure to no avail until, Exmouth were awarded a penalty with two minutes of the first half remaining, Richard Cadywould stepped up converted Exmouth's first points of the game and also make the half time score 7 - 3 to Barnstaple.
The second half saw Exmouth start the better of the two sides but Barnstaple's defence stood fast and Exmouth were unable to penetrate. This gave Barnstaple heart and were able to turn defence into attack, and after eighteen minutes of the second half Barnstaple got into Exmouth's twenty two for only the second time and went over Exmouth's try line to score in the far corner, twelve three to Barnstaple. Whether it was lack of concentration from the Exmouth player or Barnstaple's luck, Barnstaple gathered the ball from Exmouth restart and attacked, running virtually untouched to touch down under Exmouth's posts, Nineteen three to Barnstaple. At this stage, Exmouth were chasing the game and had little choice but to attack at every opportunity if they were to get back into the game, this however back fired and Barnstaple were able to take advantage of some poor defending and ran in one more try and one drop goal to a penalty to Exmouth which made the final score of twenty nine points to six in Barnstaple's favour.
