Exmouth 13 - 16 Oxford Harlequins

A penalty eight minutes into time added on sent Exmouth reeling to their fourth defeat in six matches.

Having been 13-5 down at half time, the Cockles clawed back to level terms at 13 each.  The last play of the game was a penalty to Oxford which Emsworth put over to win the game.

Exmouth got off to the worst possible start as Oxford drove over the line from a line-out for a try, despite Cockles back-rower Ben Boswell getting his body under the ball.

After the visitors had extended their lead with a penalty, Jack Downie hacked on from his own 22 and Richard Cadywould retrieved the bouncing ball to score the try wide out.

However, some sloppy defending saw Oxford score a second try before half-time to lead 13-5 at the break.

Cadywould cut the leeway kicking a penalty early in the second period and he initiated the move that led to the Cockles getting on level terms. He chipped over the top and caught his own kick and Garry Hooper was the link for Matt Ryan to score the the equalising try and that’s how it looked like staying as the seconds ticked away.

However the game descended into a free for all on the deck in the closing stages but it was Exmouth who were penalised at a ruck in the eighth minute of injury-time giving Oxford the easy penalty kick.
